______________
ANNA KATHRINA GATCHALIAN
Bucayo 2005B
3rd Year, BS Tourism

Previous Committees: Membership (2 sems), Externals (2 sems)

What is your definition of leadership?
Leadership is sacrifice. Period.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
In a scale of 10, 8. Kasi balu ku mu, pero eku pa ngan talagang gewa. But I pride myself for being a fast learner. There’s nothing I can’t learn if I put myself into it and someone will teach me. Well, except Math & Chemistry…

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
Passion and dedication. It’s a cliché, I know. But it’s what will really keep you going when everything else fails (or is failing). Realizing your flaws and finding ways to address them will also help. Everybody has flaws, kaya ng we’re called human beings diba? As a leader, dapat balu mo ding flaws mu para abalu mu nung ninu ring taung maka-saup keka to achieve something – ken la lulub ding committee-mates. Being a competent leader also means that you just have to accept the fact that you don’t get to make all the decisions after all. Eight heads will always be better than one, ika nga nila…

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
Mistakes are inevitable, but fortunately, the can be prevented. “Make mistakes, learn your lesson and make sure never to repeat it again”. Since mistakes have already been made before, we just have to do the other two.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
Constant ing strong communication with alumni. Grabe, ala kung asabi!
J

Kapilan taya i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
ASAP. Issue ya talaga yan dahil king pagkaka-balu ku, applicant ku pamu sabi ng Kuya Rye aamend da ne ing consti pero angga ngeni epa yari! Although balu ta na man ngan na ali makanita kadali ita, pero I’m sure if we all put our heads and dedication into it, mayari yarin before ku mag-graduate. Hopefully…

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
Seasonal katamaran. There are times when I become sooo tired of everything that I do so I take a break – and nobody can stop me from doing so. Leave the others to do work and find myself again. Scary huh?

Ninung older member ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
Ate Daphne and Ate Leah. I think these are two opposite people but I admire them both anyway. Ate Daph is cool, super. The sunshine after the rain, the cure against our fears and pains (98 Degrees? Haha!). Pero seriously, tutu naman diba? Ate Leah naman is silent, scary pa nga sometimes (kaka-trauma ang application period!). But the nice thing about these two is they get things done, in a unique and admirable way.

What steps will you make to promote UP Aguman in the University?
Please see my SPOA!

Nung mika-Alumni Get-Together tamu ulit, nanung theme ning party?
Perya! Let’s face it guys, our similarity with our alumni ends with our being Kapampangan and UP students. But we’ve all been kids once right? And we’ve all experienced going to perya/carnivals where we got to mingle with other people of different ages and social status. I think it will be nice to reminisce the days when our happiness depended on how many balloons we were able to shoot or how big is the cotton candy we were able to finish. It’s a way for us to miss Aguman more and realize how happier our lives had been simula nyang linub ya in Aguman king bie tamu or linub tamu king Aguman (ah basta yun yon!). Mushy but cool huh?! Hehe

GENERAL PLAN OF ACTION

Encourage members to join university-wide quiz bees & competition through intense promotions via text brigade. Obviously, madakal quiz-bees (na madagul prices ha!) keni UP pero ali tamu balu, or ditak mung mems ing aki-balu. I plan to let everybody know of these competitions to encourage them to join, thus making the university feel the presence of our beloved organization.

Tie-ups with other organizations on events that would become our venue in promoting our culture and the organization as well.

Strengthen the bond with our alumni. Kudos to the current Executive council for the very nice relationship they have established with our alumni. This time, let’s make them feel how important they are to us by using “the personal touch”. Everytime the organization will conduct a big event, Personal and creative invitations (thanks to adobe photoshop) will be sent on private email-addresses of our alumni para naman apa-feel tamu karela how much their presence means to us.

Bonggang Aguman Anniversary celebration! 35 years tana kanyan and that calls for a bigger celebration. Ituluy parin ing aumpisan tamung formal dinner at Ms. Aguman, pero dapat naman this time mag-prepare tamung masalese – by this I mean i-launch yang masalese in event. A month long preparation would be nice. Find a nice venue and own funding if possible, and give everybody an ample time to prepare to the most private and beautiful night Aguman can offer…

Target areas outside San Fernando and Angeles whenever we do STS.
34 years ta na and I guess by this time it’s safe to say that we’ve already made a mark in the minds of our Cabalens in San Fernando and Angeles. Nieni siguru dapat itas tane ing level tamu by targeting town other than the aforementioned cities. Siyempre enaman kegana-gana, pilinan tala rind eng i-invite tamu diba? Pero once apag-disisyunang i-invite la, let’s be really serious about it. I encourage everyone to make an impression everytime mag-STS kayu; call the school, ask for an appointment and present the event properly- lalu na kung first time ya pamung i-invite ing school a ita. Siyempre eta mu la parin paburen ding regular suki tamu. Ing aim tamu palagi is to have the regulars and newbees join the events of the organization.

Bigger and Better CEER. It’s all about early preparations, really. Find a venue ASAP, create a database for the questions, (in collaboration with the Educational Committee) standardize the questionnaire booklet and extensive and more intense STS. Finding a big-time sponsor would also be nice; Summit Media is known to give big sponsorships while Rush TV would gladly cover the event if they find it attractive. My experience in the AIT Student Council taught me that big companies such as those mentioned above like to give sponsorships to organizations with benefactors. I guess that is one thing that this organization should really consider para naman etamu rugu mamamagkasakit kukwang sponsors pag atin tamung events. Part of the BIGGER CEER scheme is by having a pre-registration for participants. Maybe we could utilize Aslag Online with this. How will it work? We will give a discount for students who will register online. Pwedi parin namang munta kahit ali ka pre-registered pero mas mal ing bayaran mu. With this, ababalu tamu kung makananu kadakal in i-expect tamung participants, in a way maging mas prepared tamu… 14th year na ne ning CEER kanyan and I think it’s mighty time to conduct a students’ assessment/evaluation ning event tamu. Wouldn’t it be nice if we hear from students this time? I’m sure they all have something to say about our event – positive or negative, I’m sure it will help us improve the CEER for a bigger and brighter future.
J

3rd day for CEER (?) It’s a big risk, I know. I’ve been thinking about this for the longest time and I came to the conclusion na agyu tane man kung manakit tamung strategic venue at asiguradu tala ding schools na magpadalang participants. Pero siyempre, upon the approval of the General Assembly ya parin ini…

ARIES IVAN VIRAY
Lakatan 2006A
2nd Year, BA Public Administration
Vice-President for Membership, UP Sanlahi Alliance, AY 2007-2008

Previous Committees: Externals Committee (3)

What is your definition of leadership?
Leadership involves the ability to use different forms of power to guide or influence people. A good leader handles tough circumstances well. He doesn’t only administer but he innovates. He originates more than imitates. A good leader challenges the status quo to further improve the organization’s condition.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
Being part of the Externals Committee for the past three semesters, asabi kung I have enough knowledge about the obligations of this committee. Since meging member ku, apagmaragul ku na active at meging expose ku kareng external affairs ning org. Being an officer in Sanlahi also helped a lot.

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
Dapat he knows how to listen to his fellow members. Kailangan balu na kapilan ya maging superior over others. Also, dapat agyu ng makagawang right decisions especially kareng tough situations. Most importantly, dapat he highly respects the values and moral components where he belongs.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
Once na tinagal ya ing metung a tau keng nanu mang position, we can assume na balu na la reng coresponding tasks ning committee kung nokarin ya. Ing apansin kung medyu kulang keng council is proper communication and coordination. Minsan kasi alang unity of action. So to lessen reng mistakes, dapat maging properly coordinated la reng bawat committees lalu na kareng overlapping tasks. Possible naman ini kung maayus reng bawat meeting etc.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
Itang masanting a relationship with the alumni. Maragul bage itang atin tamung communication karela. So ing challenge keng next council is kung pakananu pa adevelop ita.

Kapilan taya i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
Masakit kasing mamye specific date lalu na ali ya pa meumpisahan. It would be better kung summer pa mimisip ng possible revisions na gawan keng consti. Botohan naman kaya alang mali nanuman ing aisip during the break. So first sem karin tamu pwedeng formally iammend ing consti.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
Simula kanita, ing medyu maging problema ku is that eku agawang kumontra kareng feeling kung superior kaku (pwedeng dahil keng age… etc) gang alwa ya keng point na buri kung iraise.

Ninung older member ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
Sabyan ku sana I Ate Leah kasi sobrang bilib ku kaya. Oneng eke disnan term kaya eku talaga makapagreact makananu ya meglead. So, I consider na role model i Ate Hazel. Marakal dahilan. Akit mu talaga pagiging active na gang sabyan tamu pang graduating ne during that time. Maragul impluwensya na kaku keng pagkaburi ku keng externals.

What steps will you make to promote UP Aguman in the University?
Marakal possible ways para ipromote ing org keng university. Ing kailangan mu talaga, reng mismung members buri da. Tang tipung elamu mapipilitan kareng activities na pakyabayan. Improve further ing relationship Sanlahi. Lalu na ngeni, I could say na medyu mabubuhay ne ulit ing Sanlahi. Darakal na ulit active na provincial orgs. Maragul yang bage ing atin ka pang abeng 20 other provincial orgs para makilala ya ing Aguman. Another way is to join activities da reng alwang orgainzations keng UP. Etamumu makilala karin as an org pero apakit tamu rin ing capabilities da reng members tamu.

Nung mika-Alumni Get-Together tamu ulit, nanung theme ning party?
Ing aisip kung theme, simple yamu. Buri kung maging retro ing theme. Mag 35 years ne ing Aguman, so nanu pa ba ing best a theme kung ali itang setting anyang metatag ya. Tang tipung atin pang photo exhibit para tuluyan tamung mg travel back in time. Magreminisce.

GENERAL PLAN OF ACTION

IMPLUWENSIYA NING TV!

GLOBE, ABOT MO ANG MUNDO!
Masayang isipan na ating healthy relationship between the members and the alumni. Constant communication with them helps a lot in this aim. Nokarin la man whether atiu la Pilipinas or other countries, gawa tamung paralan bang atin tamu pa ring balita with them and to keep them updated kung nanung mangyari keng org. With the use of internet and other means, keeping in touch with them is not that impossible.

SUNSILK, LIFE CAN’T WAIT.
Time is gold. Masyadung importante ing oras para kareng bawat members. Ing pamag-invite schools ing medyu maging problem kareng events na ning org. Minsan, dahil eda agad ababalu, makapagset lang schedule na conflict kareng events tamu. Ing gawan tamu, agahan taya ing pamag-STS as much as possible. Makipagcoordinate tamu with other committees bang agad makapagrelease letters. Mas maranun tamung maginvite, mas daragul ing possibility na marakal tamu aagkat makyabe.

TM, POWER PISO
Kapansin-pansin na ing madalas problema ning org is that ala tamung pera. I believe na ing external committee pwede neng sopan ing fin para mag market. Uling ing exte ing magmanage kareng external affairs ning org, pwede tamung gumamit connections that will ease our financial problems.

NOKIA, CONNECTING PEOPLE
Having a good relationship with other orgs help promotes our organization. Buri kung lalung idevelop ing relationship ning Aguman kareng alwang groups keng university. Muna, makyabe tamu kareng different activities na gagawan da reng orgs, for example quiz bee, etc. Apopromote na nini alwa mu ing org pero ing galing da reng members na. Metung pang maragul a plan is to further develop our relationship with Sanlahi. Lalu na ngeni kasi asabi ku bilang part ning Secretariat na, apabie mi ne talaga ing Sanlahi. Having a constant communication with 20 other provincial orgs helps a lot in promoting our culture.

TANDUAY, HABANG TUMATAGAL LALONG SUMASARAP.
We should be proud that this year, we’ll celebrate Aguman’s 35th anniversary. So dapat medyu memorable ing celebration. Together with the other committees, mag organize tamung engrandeng get together party at magset exhibit na papakit ing dinanas ning org for the past 35 years. And if agawang paralan agad, why not try to have a mini sportsfest between the members and alumni.

GMA NEWS & PUBLIC AFFAIRS, SERBISYONG TOTOO.
Madalas ing feedback da kekatamu deng tau keng Pampanga, edakatamu kilala. Reng usual mu na mikibalu kekatamu ay reng maging participants tamu kareng events ning org. Atsaka metung pang important na comment da, etamu kanu masyadung popromote ing culture tamu gang atin tamung Sining. As early as summer, pwede tanang makipagcoordinate kareng LGUs keng Pampanga. Maragul kasing bage na maging part tamu kareng different festivals ning kekatamung province. One way ya pa ini para mapromote ing org. Mag-organize tamu ring medical mission o kaya outreach program para makapagbigay serbisyu tanaman kareng aliwa pang Kapampangan.

AGUMAN… LOVE KO ‘TO!

Keng CEER, planu kung magka somewhat like career talk bayu magstart ing mock exam. Mag allot tamung 1-2 hours for our invited speakers para dinan lang background deng highschool students kung tungkul ya talga nukarin course da, etc. Balamu open forum ne rin between us and the students. Tsaka para ipakit na proud tamu kareng members at alumni ning Aguman, reng iinvite tamung speakers are Aguman members.

FELIPE PABLO IV
Langgotsi 2006B

3rd Year, BS Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management

Previous Committees: Records & Publications Committee 1st & 2nd Semester AY 2007-2008 (2 sems)

What is your definition of leadership?
I believe that good leadership exudes a leader of strong character with servant attitude, excellent people skills & evident talent. A good leadership surpasses the standards.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
I have been an active member of our school's newspaper during its peak. That gave me experience on publications. I had my secretarial experience when I was the secretary of the St. Jude Thaddeus Parish Youth Ministry during its active time for two years.

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
A competent Agu Leader knows how to maximize his/ her resources to come up with better outputs while meeting deadlines in the lowest cost possible. He/she doesn't need to sacrifice studies because of good planning.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
I personally believe that good communication is neccesary para mabawasan ang pag-aaway. Compromise will come our way.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
The best thing that the previous Executive Committee that had done, for me, is strengthening the bond between the residents and the alumni. Because of this, the organization had come up with better outcomes while maximizing their resources.

Kapilan taya i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
Ammending the constitution will take time. By summer, the Execom shall talk about the ratifications. By the first months of the first sem, it shall be brought up to the General Assembly for aprroval. Syempre, para di pa busy ang lahat sa Pautakan at mabigyan ng panahon yung Constitution.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
Being quite assertive when pressured. Lalo na kung labo labo na. Kasi I’m so nakakainis when I’m assertive. Kaya nga dapat may plan.

Ninung older member ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
My role model is Ate Daph. She knows how to plan her life well without sacrificing much. She has a servant's attitude and she maximizes her time and resources. Small but indeed great.

What are your plans for Aslag?
Dapat may sumunod na sa yapak ni Kuya Rex. The Records & Pub Committee should learn how to manage the online Aslag na talagang low cost incurring compared sa printed Aslag Newsletter. Also, dapat maglabas ang Agu ng literary portfolio, para naman mapagmayabang natin ang ating angking kagalingan sa pagsulat, di ba? Pwede rin tong mapakinabangan financially! Hehehe...

Patse susulat ka keng bond paper, makananu me apipante ing sulat mu?
Weh?! Hindi ako sumusulat sa bond paper na ala project and dating. Una, di maganda sulat ko. Pangalawa, I use technology for my advantage. Hello?! Bond paper na may pad paper sa likod is so like old school. Pero yeah, before, pinapatong ko yung bond paper sa pad paper para may guide ako sa pagsulat.

SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION

FOREVER PRESENT
Attendance
Make the committee always present, well presented, and always on the reach by being an active part of the organization. Regular committee meetings shall be organized to ensure effective work and good rapport amongst the committee members.

Logbooks
A logbook that is, not just only cluttered at the tambayan, but ready to present its self beautifully everyday by making sure that the logbook is always maintained.

Action
A committee that will always be on the go. By good organization and planning, as well as right division of task, I present a committee that is always in action.

Minutes of the meeting
A logbook for the minutes of the meeting shall be made available so that members are always updated. The logbook shall always be present in the tambayan and shall be kept in the cabinet for security

EFFICIENT SERVICE
More organized
I dream of a bonded committee that is active and is progressive. I plan to have regular committee meetings that shall be held once every two weeks at the minimum. This is so to plan events ahead of time. The Records & Publications Committee shall be well organized and shall always know what to do.

On time
During the organization's activities (such as CEER, Pautakan, Sining, Acquaintance Party, Gen Meets), the Records & Publications Committee shall always be “on time”. “On time” means five minutes ahead of cal time. During major events, the committee shall be present thirty minutes before call time. This is for other schools to have a good impression on how professional and disciplined the organization is.

PRESERVATION
Nostalgia
Old log books shall be mended and kept, so in the future Mibalik Tmabayan's and events of the same nature, alumni and memebrs could cherish and relive the past.

Agu Board
The Agu Board shall be maintained everyday and shall be fixed, if needed, at least once a week. The Agu Board represents the organization and we do not want students, teachers and other organizations to think hoe unruly we are, do we?

SURPASS STANDARDS
Yes to better outputs
Creativity is advantageous, specifically on the part of the Records & Publications Committee. Because of this, the committee and the organization can have better outputs, better communication letters that shall be on time and more presentable.

Active Imagination
Creativity does not only include how well we use our hands and how well we are artfully talented, but also how we look for the best alternative. This is where flexibility comes in. With creativity and flexibility combined, I intend to lead a committee that is totally creative, resourceful and ingenious by holding committee meetings, planning events, making and evaluation options, and choosing what is best for the organization.

No to higher cost
In choosing for better alternatives, lower expenses are considered. To do this, evaluation of alternatives and improvisation shall be implemented.

Projects:
Aslag Online
The Aslag Online Team will need man power in the coming days as Mr. Rex Dizon ill graduate anytime soon. The AOL needs future moderators. I intend that the Records & Pub Committee be empowered on the Aslag Online. Ergo, the committee will be prepared for the said predicament once it is encountered.

Literary Folio
I plan to release a special Aguman Literary Folio within the first two moths of the second semester before the Christmas break. This will replace the Aslag Newsletter. Also, this is for the preparation of the upcoming UP Aguman's 35th Annniversary. This shall be the major project of the Records & Pub Committee for the incoming school year.

Agu Board
I aim to have a planned and concrete design of the Agu Board which shall be by semester. The Agu Board shall also be mended at least once a week and maintained daily. Updates on the Agu Pic of the Week shall be on a weekly basis while birthday list and calendar shall be updated monthly, specifically on the last week of the outgoing month.

Agu Directory
By the first month of the first semester, the directory shall be released.

KEVIN PATRICK PEÑALBA
Langgotsi 2006B
2nd Year, BS Business Economics

Previous Committees: Membership Committee (1 semester), Records and Publication Committee (1 semester)

What is your definition of leadership?
Leadership is not just the showing of the way, it is the paving of the way. You see, there is a difference between making people see the path they must take and making the path for them. Madalas pa pin, a leader must become the path, by doing so, that individual doesn’t just become a leader, but a servant-leader. This oxymoron which generally tells us that a leader must lead so as to serve and not to be recognized is the best definition of leadership.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
I WILL have a deeper know-how of the position I am nominated for. That’s for sure. The acquisition of the needed know-how requires a shorter time than the development of the necessary leadership. Feeling ku naman medevelop ne kaku ing sense na pagiging leader. Asabi ku kanta na, I don’t like responsibilities, but let me correct myself by saying, I was afraid to handle them. Eh eganagana naman tatakut ‘di ba? But, what’s important is, I realized that I don’t need, at all, to be afraid.

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
A competent leader must be a worker. Let other people see this leader work so that they may follow him/her and that they may realize their responsibilities. More so, a competent leader must be reasonably strict. He/she must give reasonable commands with an ample air of authority and a great sense of responsibility. Aliwa itang manutus ka dahil ‘leader’ ka at matamad ka. As much as possible you do things that you can do. If the necessity arises, then why not ask for a favor first? Pag ala talaga, then impose the command given the requirement mentioned earlier.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
The Executive Council should represent a solid force. Thus, disputes, though not inevitable, should be resolved as quickly as possible. Besides, a leader should know how to unload a certain amount of pride every now and then. Kung atin ka talagang malasakit king org, gawin mu ngan ban mayari la reng issues, kasi emu naman burin a madame ing buong org dahil keng childishness.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
The rekindling of the weak connection the residents had with the alumni. In fairness, this academic year, we really felt the presence of our alumni, as in masikan!

Kapilan taya i-amend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
Honestly, this year, first and foremost, I have no idea of why the consti has to be amended. That’s why I didn’t not feel the urgency of the constitution being amended. For me, it is must not be a matter of time but of accuracy. Sa palage ku asagut ke mu ini pag (given a chance) apisabyan ne.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
My patience, unfortunately, is not as long as how I want it to be. Siguru pin pakanta ku talga. Pero ali naman pakanta kagrabe. Tsaka, I’ve learned to control myself every now and then na susumpungan ku.

Ninung older member/s ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
Daphne for her dedication, rationality and soft-but-always-present-authority. Way to go Daph!

What are your plans for Aslag?
For the Aslag (online/printed), I plan of making the staff (once it is formulated) more active and on hand. Kasi, bala mu ali man metatag ing Aslag staff eh. Whether we like it or not, Kuya Rex will be letting go of the Aslag, particularly the online edition. Therefore, so as not to bring it back to its dark ages, mas masanting kung ating sapu and this time, ali mu metung tau, but a team.

Patse susulat ka keng bond paper, makananu me apipante ing sulat mu?
Kapag susulat ku keng bond paper ipatung ke king ruled paper (e.g. yellow pad) ban pante ku sulat. The ruled paper somehow represents the lots of help I’ll need to make just and balanced eklavu.
SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION

I came up with the following after a thorough thinking of the things I have and can do. But it doesn’t really start here.
WE can reshuffle all these letters and come up with more ideas of things we have and can do. That my friend, is from where we will really start.

QUANTITY=QUALITY
*We have to recognize that the creativity, though of almost the same importance, must be secondary to the pool of information the bulletin board must contain and thus the space must be utilized. Nanu mo nung masanting ya pero ala nemang laman?
*Its maintenance must be regularly observed so as not for it to be one of the Tambayan’s sources of trash, moreover, so as not make it seem as one big trash. Also, so as to prevent damages just as what happened to our poor benches. The bulletin board has been there for a while, and we definitely don’t want to see it going.

WE WANT TO SEE MORE
*The org’s logbook must be maintained and be kept safely given its importance as a medium of exchange between members of the org, as a mean of voicing out and as a medium of entertainment. Aliwa itang mangalasug ya. The logbook has become of great significance to the org, tipung pag alang logbook, pile ya ing Aguman.
*Thus, as the custodian of the org’s files and records, the cabinet (or other equipments that may be available in the future upon consideration, at kapag mika-funds) must be kept in a systematic and orderly manner.
*An online repository of files will be created. Used and produced files and records throughout the academic year (e.g., minutes, STS letters, sponsorships, documentations) will be stored here and will be available upon any member’s request and/or ExeCoun’s consent. Ban pag yari ne ing term na ning ExeCoun, pwede neng i-turn over king next ExeCoun – tipung Book of Secrets. Through this, we truly preserve Aguman history, and every now and then, pwede tayang balikan ing history ning Aguman.
*A separate logbook must be provided for the General Assembly’s and Executive council’s minutes of the meeting.
The abovementioned must be available upon request of member and upon consent of the council, indeed, transparency. Madalas taya yang dimdam ngening milabas a USC Elections. And I think it is important as what they say.

FROM FLICKERING TO BEAMING
Online Version
The continuation and maintenance of the org’s digital haven’s good performance over the past months. In all fairness, inariba ya talaga. And we don’t want to see it going down again.
Encouragement for the members of the org and alumni alike to visit the site frequently for certain reminders as a mean of information dissemination.
The staffers of the Aslag must be more visible, more active and more involved. Dapat tayang ibalik ini. Kung abalik taya ini, mas sikan ya ing aslag.
Printed Version
Ample copies of the Aslag Printed Version must be released on the organization’s big events, namely CEER, Pautakan and Sining, with the main purpose of making the organization and its activities more known to the people of Pampanga.
The staffers of the Aslag must be more visible, more active and more involved. Dapat tayang ibalik ini. Kung abalik taya ini, mas sikan ya ing aslag.

TETETETEXT-TING-TING!
*Up-to-date and handy directories of the members must be distributed. Mas masanting kasi kung handy ya di ba? By summer, the directory must be prepared already, this time all members (even those who didn’t reaff) will be included. That way, by June atin tanang list of members.
There will be a creation of an online directory that will be available in one of the organization’s site in the internet
Information (e.g. GenMeet schedules, reminders) dissemination thru the SMS and internet will be more intense.
The events of the organization will be more publicized in Pampanga for more participants, onlookers (and the like) turnout. Madakal ya benefits ini, this will definitely help the org in many ways, to acquire funds is just one of them.

A LITTLE AMBITION IS ALWAYS GOOD
The 35th anniversary of the organization will see the materialization of a special literary Folio. This will contain creative writings and illustrations pertinent to the organization’s solid 35 years. Gawa ku talagang paralan ban magawa ne this time.
This litfolio will aim to bring about nostalgia and a sense of history of the organization’s glorious past.

BACK TO BASICS
The time has come when in duties, which we deem basic (registration and the like) and which have been around since the birth of the organization, have to be done superbly if not perfectly. As much as possible, iwasan tana reng mangalating problemang araransan tamu kareng events, meetings, etc.

What is your definition of leadership and what it takes to be an effective AguLeader?
For me leadership is not just the capability of letting them do what you want to but more importantly is doing the job you gave them because they wanted to. Maniwala cu casi na para salese ya ing working relationship yu at magca-goodwill dapat buri darin deng caiabe mu ing gagawan da, itang ali mu assign cang assign carela tapos emu pala balu na eda naman talaga buri ta. Though I did not mean na magpa-under ca carela at pag eda buri cagad mu ng ali pagawa carela. You should be firm but kind, a cool head and a warm heart as they say.
Also, leadership for me is to convince yourself first before you convince others. It is really difficult to encourage others if you, yourself, aren’t convinced on your take or side on certain situations like in dealing with problems. Basta take it as a man, enaca manuru pang aliwa nung megcamali ca man.

Macananu calalam ing know-how mu ceng position na tatagalan mu?
I may been a member of the Finance Committee ever since I became an Agumember but that does not mean that I know everything on how the committee functions and should work. I would say that out of a scale of 10 I would give myself a 5 because what I know as a FinnCom member might be just half of the whole knowledge of what a FinnCom Head should know. These “know-how’s” could be broaden if ever I was given a chance to be in that position. So far, I was able to experience to raise funds and to deal with problems of solicitation and financial delinquency of members, which should be improved.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
Previous mistakes could be prevented if the officers will set aside their differences and always respect each other. If co-officers need support they must be supported fully to enhance the working relationship and camaraderie among them. Also, being too proud of oneself must be avoided, if someone from the ExeCom was praised for such very good deeds, he/she must not forget to think that his/her success was also because of his/her co-officers and more importantly the members, because rifts might start among these officers and eventually will also affect the members, in short chaos. Another thing to avoid mistakes is for them to become good leaders as I elaborated in the preceding question.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
Alumni relations – which really helped our organization to function better like support from the alumni in our various events.

Kapilan taia i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
Actually, ecu rin balu eh, I must admit that ece rin macanian pa cabalu ing Consti tamu in terms of what it needs to be changed but if it comes to a time na cailangan sumaup nacu man.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
Being a fun person might give me a harder time sometimes because I might not be serious enough when I need to and in return they might not just take me seriously. For example, when I try to ask for help in some problems.

Ninung older member/s ing role model mu caras ceng pagiging leader?
E Ate Daph, casi despite ceng paglocwan de reng members or lagi deng pamusitan ocei mu caia, and she can get the attention and respect daring mems lalu na pag cailangan. Itang bang respetwan me without even saying na respetwan ya. She is also firm with her decisions and at the same tim, kind, and paciramdaman nala reng tau.

How will you prevent financial obligations delinquency among members?
Through rewards for those who pay on time, because people tend to respond properly to incentives and for those who fail to settle their balances, constant reminders to them (siguradu naman na sumawa la reta ceng pangungulit)

Atsu ka SM kaybat mewala ya ing wallet mu. Ala kang pera keng bulsa. Ing ATM mu atsu keng wallet. Ala yang charge ing phone mu. Makananu kang muli?

GENERAL PLAN OF ACTION
*More fund raising activities (if possible, once a month)
*Improve the solicitations turn-out and to gather more sponsors especially on major events like Pautakan, Sining and CEER
*Accreditation of events like Pautakan and Sining from the DepEd (wih the help of EducCom) so through this, our major events can be funded by the government as well.
*Efficient fiscal management, wherein the FinCom will focus more on collecting funds in the major events (Pautakan, Sining, CEER). When other events need extra funding the committee in charge of that event should head the fund raising project, with the assistance of FinCom.
*Unite the FinComm members for an all out effort and to do our tasks more efficiently.
*Reduce the rate of financial delinquency among the members.
*Coordinate with other committees for more effective way of collecting funds.

SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION
*Continue fund raising activities like rummage sales and raffle draws but to a higher profit turn out.
*Through the coordination with other committees the FinCom can improve to collect and gather funds:
In cooperation with MemCom, the applicants’ batch will have a fund raising project to help the organization.
*Together with ExteCom, maintain good alumni relations for alumni are one of the most feasible sources of funds for our projects and events.
*With Records and Pub, to update the prospect sponsors and alumni for the events in our organization and to also relay our needs in the said event.(through e-mails, text messages and other modes of communication). Coordinate also with Rec and Pub in releasing a CD (compilation of photos and/or videos during events) that can be sold to alumni who wanted to have an update on happenings and can also be given to sponsors, instead of the souvenir programs which are more costly.
* With EducCom and SocioCom, events like Pautakan and Sining can be strategic opportunities to sell T-shirts and other apparels. (pins, notepads...)
* Work with EducCom for the accreditation of Pautakan to DepEd so that the government will be able to help us in funding the events.
*With its counterpart of SocioCom’s Sining, early proposals to the Office of Initiatives Culture and the Arts to also help in funding the event.

What is your definition of leadership?
Leadership begets leadership in oneself. It starts with the simple things that one do. Leadership means taking the lead, taking the initiative, not being afraid to take risks and willing to accept consequences. Leadership doesn't take account from its root word rather from another word, service. Without it, leadership is bogus.

For other general questions, see Buduy’s answers under “Educational Committee Chairperson”.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
I take a course which promotes capitalism and been a member of the fin com for a semester. Finance means handling and investing capital to produce the most effective results, and I can say that I am well versed with ways and means to do it. Aside from that, being a fin com head requires one to be a good marketer, so people would patronize our events and even invest in them. If voted I could exercise my course. Personally, I want to change other's impression of fin as 'taga-kolekta ng funds' to a committee that not only keeps and handles the financial resource of the org, but a committee that makes creative ways to generate funding for relevant Agu Activities, handling progressive marketing and appropriate investments.

How will you prevent financial obligations delinquency among the members?
By making a master list of all registered members on an Excel file, financial data can be properly organized. By plugging in some Excel formulas, members’ financial status (i.e. debt on fees, solicitations, etc.) can be properly monitored and accounted for. Given the chance, I would also regularly post either in the bulletin board, logbook or Online Aslag, the organization’s financial statements, so members can have a check and balance (whatever that means) on the financial situation on the org. Fund-raisers would be of help in making members aware of their obligations in the org.

Atsu ka SM kaybat mewala ya ing wallet mu. Ala kang pera keng bulsa. Ing ATM mu atsu keng wallet. Ala yang charge ing phone mu. Makananu kang muli?
Given the circumstance I would have to see myself doing the following decisions:
*Walk and walk until I spot someone I know, then the rest is taken cared of.
*Walk home.
*Dial 109 in PLDT telephone booths, and call collect home.
*Go to the admin and borrow their telephone. Surely they would understand.
*Go to the admin and explain my situation.

SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION
As FinComm head, I envision the organization to a short-term goal of fulfilling its activities and events with all the financial capital that it needs, through strict implementation of financial internal control and revenue generating projects. Likewise I envision the benefit of a long-term goal for the organization to have a stable financial condition by having an account and making an annual fin project. I also plan to instill in the members the spirit of entrepreneurship so they can value more the financial aspect of the organization.

RUSH Rummagables and Used items for Sale Here!
As the name implies, members will give out used items to be set p for sale in different communities. It will be held utmost twice per semester.

PBB – Papel Bote at iBa pa
Trashable papers, Pet bottles will be collected and sold in CASAA. Boxes will be provided for collections every week. Fin Com members will see to it that the boxes are placed properly in the tambayan and will monitor its cleanliness.

KUMAG – KUmpanya kaMi po ang AGuman
To build up non-existent ties among Pampanga-based Companies, FinComm will pattern a brochure or an AVP to be given to companies/people during solicitation periods. We encourage them to invest in our event, watch our events and at the same time we build ties with them.

Dahil libreng mangarap: FREAK Fincom’s Revenue Expanding Annual Krash
In lieu of expanding the org’s events and activities, the FinComm will also hold its annual fund raising event (much bigger than the other two). Ideas include: tie-ups with Pampanga based productions, online t-shirt selling, human auctions, tying up with UP Sandiwa (Tarlac student organization) to make a huge event back home.

REPRESENT!
There are a lot of activities inside the campus, most of them are contests. Let’s maximize the talents of our members by joining these events. We earn money and we make AGUMAN more known to UP.

FED UP – Fincom’s Excel Database for Uploading members’ financial Positions
Reaff fees, t-shirt fees, expenses, revenues, solicitations. Such will be recognized in an Eexcel list of all registered members together with other financial statements will be posted online, in the bulletin board or logbook. This will lead to a more systematized collection of fees and other receivables. All receipts and expenditures will be included as well.

AguElections: Educational Committee Chairperson

In time for the UP Aguman Election of Officers for the Centennial Executive Council, Aslag Online is proud to present to you the candidates for the different positions. To help you make in making the crucial decision on whom to vote, here's a feature on the final candidates. Here are the candidates for Educational Committee Chairperson.

What is your definition of leadership?
My idea of leadership is like steering a ship rather than rowing a boat. One doesn’t take the burden of doing it all but rather one only motivates the members, amasses and sifts their interests and opinions and set the direction for goal attaiinability. Of course, all of these while fulfilling your tasks as part or member of the team.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
Being part of Pautakan 2007 and being active in the committee for two semesters are my best gauges of my know-how for the position.

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
A competent AguLeader has a jolly disposition and has the capability to spread her positive aura to her fellows. She keeps her motivation even if the others lost it. She is flexible to situations and manages pressures well.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
Being active and hands-on to activities makes you aware of the previous shortcomings that occured. By taking note of these and learning from them is a way of preventing yourself from committing them too. The other simple way is to ask the officers themselves of their mistakes and again, learn from them..

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
The best administrative practice that the incumbent Executive Council has done is the reignition of our connection with our alumni. If I’ll be a part of Execomm, I will do my best to maintain that relationship.

Kapilan taya i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
We all know that amending a constitution needs the concensus of members. To see the real concensus, members should not only vote if they are in favor of an amendment or not, they should also show their interest and effort in amending (i.e. pointing faulty or jaded provisions and suggesting ways to amend it). Execomm will then aggregate and filter these suggestions to come up with a better constitution that suits our conditions. Now, the best time to amend it is when ALL the members are physically, emotionally and intellectually ready to partake in this activity.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
Admittedly, I am nerbyosa and a panicky person. Sa mga crucial na events, nauunahan ako ng nerbyos. But still, I consider my forgetfulness as my greatest weakness. I can’t survive a day without a planner or my friends (yes, that includes you!) who always remind me of my supposed task or activity.

Ninung older member ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
I admire Ate Daph’s high spirits and vigor, Kuya Marco’s sense of considerateness, Kuya Rex’s sensibility, Ate Jen’s feisty attitude, Ate Cel’s and Ate Zen’s knack of integrating what they learned (these political theories) into their leadership and of course, my bestfriend’s assertiveness. J

In your opinion, why is the duty of ‘looking over the academic welfare of the members’ almost always being neglected?
I think it’s mainly because this is considered more as a personal responsibility rather than a communal one. Since the members are students, it is still their chief responsibility to study and perform well in classes.

Ninung members ing buri mung ma-feature kareng Pautakan questions?
I would like to include ex-members aka the alumni in Pautakan questions. Kuya Renan and Ate Rissa (kilig!), Ate Di and Kuya Joman, Ate Melissa and her ensaymadas (syempre!) would make interesting characters.

SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION

The Pautakan, on its 35th year, will:
...be a Dep-Ed recognized contest
An accreditation by Dep-Ed will greatly help Pautakan proceed to a higher level. More schools will participate as Pautakan will be included as one of the contests that DepEd memorandums will recommend. More sponsors will donate as our contest will be further legitimized in our society.
...be presented to the high school students as early as CEER to build the anticipation
Anticipation by the students themselves for the contest can make the event more special. All it takes to trigger this is an early-prepared, well-thought theme and a ‘kabog’ well-presented AVP.
...have a pre-lauch preparation
The need for a pre-launch preparation is inevitable. The purpose of this stage is to lessen the bulk of affairs to tend to after the event’s launching and to remove the ‘devil’ in the details. Making this as an official stage in Pautakan can help members avoid procrastination.
The following are some of the things we can do during this period:
*roster of prospect company, group or individual sponsors
I deem it necessary to hav ethis list before disseminating solicitation letters. This can help organize our connections and can also serve reference to people who are having a hard time looking for sponsors. The Educational Committee will try to provide this through research and by accepting infos and datas from the members themselves and from the alumni. The list will include the name of the company/group/individual, the addresses, the contact numbers and the contact persons (for companies and groups).
*collection of questions from the previous Pautakan
A recall of the Pautakan questions will help Aguman avoid having same questions asked in the past few Pautakans.
*inclusion of a set of Kapampangan-related questions
*1 question/ 1 week/ 1 member policy
To avoid cramming and to produce well-thought queries, the Educational Committee will launch this policy of 1 question/ 1 week /1 member policy. A Yahoo! Group will be set up that will be specifically used for the purpose of collecting the questions that will be submitted by the members weekly.
*provision of a more improved buzzer, more ‘kabog’ AVPs, more gimmicks and icebreakers and a souv prog template
These usually last-minute concerns will be done during this stage in order to come up with better outcomes.
*have an early launch
*early dissemination of solicitation letters
An earlier release of solicitation letters (a month or two) can help us get more numbers of sponsors.
*early dissemination of STS letters
An earlier release of STS letters can help schools accomodate us in their schedules. It can also help contestants be more prepared.
*a longer time for advertisement
A longer time for advertisement is a strategy that can help make the event more special.
*have an official after-affair roundup
Making this an official stage in the Pautakan season will remind the members that the job is not yet completely done. Distribution of souv prog that give thanks to sponsors increases the probability of trusting the org again. Recollecting and safekeeping of questions will also be helpful to future Pautakan events. Lastly, rallying support to our winners and helping them champion the Sanlahi conest is the perfect icing to the cake.

With regards to the academic welfare of the members:
*ensure an atmosphere that makes members aspire for greater academic achievement
For more explanation please approach me.
*weekly/monthly updates on academic contests in the university
*Encouraging our members to join different contests is a way of promoting academic welfare of the members. It is also a way of promoting the organization to other students and making it known within the university. Who knows if it may also bring financial benefit to the organization? ;)

Leadership doesn't take account from its root word rather from another word, service. Without it, leadership is bogus.

Makananu kalalam ing know-how mu keng position na tatagalan mu?
I have been a member of the Educ Committee for two semesters, closely working with its activities, and I can assure you that I know, if not all, most of the ins and outs of what it takes to be an Educ Chairperson. I have been present in two PAUTAKAN's as an Agu Member, and with that I know its ins and outs as well. Even semestral activities such as ACLE. If I become fortunate enough, can assure different activities to promote the educ com's ideals.I want to shave off the thought that educ is inactive during the second sem, na ang educ pang pautakan lang. I want it to be a committee that promotes academic discourse among the members, and a committee that keeps the 'Kapampangan' in the members intact.

Generally speaking, what does it take to be a competent AguLeader?
To be a competent officer in Aguman is like heading your own family. It doesn't solely rely on fulfilling your functions and tasks, you also have to take into consideration the members and their welfare. it may sound melodramatic, but to be an officer in Aguman, is like having a girlfriend. You must fulfill your duties and at the same time look after her, to strengthen your relationship and keep her satisfied.

How would you prevent previous mistakes of previous Executive Councils?
As much as possible, I should act as soon as possible. As far as I know, time is a constraint which the org tries to handle with. I would try to be as OC as I can, but in a good way. keeping the members' internal relationship is also another. As much as possible, we should have frequent bonding sessions. To prevent past mistakes, we should have an assessment of the org frequently.

Nanung masanting a administrative policy or practice ning outgoing Executive Council ing buri mung i-continue?
Alumni Relations. More Socio-Civic Activities in Pampanga. Online STS, ASLAG and Y! Groups.

Kapilan taya i-ammend ing Consti? Anong petsa na?!
Personally, I think we don’t have to amend the Constitution or have a ChuPa (Chuarter Update and Amendments) unless some members see that there are things lacking in the Consti. Some things are resolved through verbal and personal processes, and not thru written documents such as the Consti. Let's put the Consti online.

What trait of yours do you think will give you a harder time when it comes to handling the pressures of being in-charge?
I take things easy. Even if deadlines pass, it is just fine for me. In the context that I ask people to do this or that task, lenient ku masyadu.

Ninung older member ing role model mu karas keng pagiging AguLeader?
Kuya Argel. I participated in the Pautakan when he was the head (itang ating RiteMed na sponsor) and I can see that it was okay. And even during our app process, he was able to impart that 'thing' which made our batch love the org.

In your opinion, why is the duty of ‘looking over the academic welfare of the members’ almost always being neglected?
You can’t possibly help it if a member wants to spend most of his/her time in the tambayan and other org events, than studying his/her lessons to cope with his/her acads life. The question, ‘how are you doing in your academics?’, is still a taboo among most of the members. They won’t just talk about it in a snap. Maybe the immediate way that we could alleviate this situation is by gathering the class schedule data and putting them in one database, so one knows the other’s free time and class time. This way, when one knows that the other has a class on that set of time them he can say in a nice way ‘Uy diba may class ka ngayon?’, resulting to mixed emotions on the latter’s part and thus making him realize that he needs to set himself on acad mode. Maybe we could have incentives for those getting CS or US standings.

Ninung members ing buri mung ma-feature kareng Pautakan questions
When the sun shines, it doesn’t choose person A from person X, rather it disposes itself to everybody. The feeling of anticipating your name in a PAUTAKAN question churns up one’s nerves, so priceless, and that could encourage more members to attend.

SPECIFIC PLAN OF ACTION

As Educ Head, I envision the organization to continue to improve the different existing activities such as the PAUTAKAN and ACLE, and making other activities for that matter. Another is helping members maintain stable academics.

Time And Miscellaneous Appropriations Database
List of members’ class schedules and free times will be posted in a database, either online or through the directory. This will give a chance for a member to remind another member about his classes whenever the latter overlooks the time he/ she spends in the tambayan.

ABB Agu Big Bro
This will be an extension with our alumni who provide scholarships, internships, jobs and other related offers to other people. The Educ will keep you informed about our almuni’s proposals and other offerings.

Fortified at 35
For a stronger STS. If we are fortunate enough, we will ask DEPed to recognize our annual event, PAUTAKAN. This way, we can attract more schools to join, and through DEPed, we could invite more schools.

ACLE
The name implies. We will participate in ACLE despite preparations for our other different events.

RefuGEe
We will gather GE notes, and make a list of GE notes. This way members can borrow notes and other readings for their GE subjects.

BeInformed
If we will have adequate funds, we will make sure that there are newspapers in the tambayan so members to catch up with the relevant issues in our society. Hey, newspapers cost only 20 bucks. We could assign members to bring newspapers each day.

Trackback
We will keep members informed about different university happenings – class suspensions, half-days, academic calendar, registration dates and deadlines, etc. We will remind them through online ASLAG or through text brigades.
